This week we are taking a look at the forthcoming Devon County Show.  Mary Quicke, who is known as the “cheese queen” has been elected to be president of the Devon County Agricultural Association, which organises the annual Devon County Show.

She is in charge of the family cheese firm near Newton St Cyres, Exeter, who has a global reputation, not just across Devon and the South West.

Mary said about the forthcoming Devon County Show:

“I want it to be a great big party, but a party with a purpose, and that is to celebrate farming and food – an industry that has extraordinary value, not only in providing us with food but in making sure that we have a planet that works.”

Entries are also being sought by the Devon County Agricultural Association for the Prince of Wales Award that is awarded at the Devon County Show.  The projects that are focused on are local food, local energy and local services, who the judges consider to be doing the most to assist the lives of others in a sustainable way.
